GENERAL POSITION DESCRIPTION
The ideal Network Engineer resource acts independently and exercises independent judgment and discretion within generally defined practices and policies to select appropriate methods or techniques for obtaining solutions. May act as advisor to subordinates or team members to meet schedules and resolve problems. Work is varied within established activities and requires frequent interpretation. Typically resolves complex problems which may require adaptation of standardized practices or precedent.
Responsible for the design and implementation of custom networks using switch and router technology based on customer requirements. Responsible for development of all documentation (system drawings, test plans, etc.) associated with the network design. Primary POC for technical issues relating to the project. Works with the Project Lead to identify and manage resources assigned to the project, communications and final acceptance by the customer. Recommends network design changes/enhancements for improved systems availability and performance.
• Requires a thorough knowledge of networking essentials.
• Advanced background in IP Networking (design and deployment),
• Networking: Switches, Routers, Hubs, Servers, Cables, Racks, Firewalls, LAN, WAN, TCP/IP, DNS, UDP, Latency, VoIP, QoS, EIGRP, BGP, OSPF, NHRP
• Experience with Cisco hardware and IOS configuration and troubleshooting
• Cisco networking including mid size and some larger routers and switches
• Experience with VOIP a definite plus
• VPNs, Firewalls & Network Security desired
• Good communication and listening skills
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Good interpersonal skills

* Must be a self starter and be able to use a high degree of initiative.
WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
• Candidates must be U.S. Citizens as candidates will undergo a Federal Government background investigation.
• Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, management information systems, or related field preferred
• Good personal computer and business solutions software skills
• Ability to work in a team environment
EDUCATION / CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
The following certifications are strongly preferred: MCSE, CCNA, CCNP, CNE
